Our first cohort of CMEPS students has taken up their studies as planned – the term started in early September at the AUC and in mid-October at the University of Tübingen. We would like to emphasize that, despite the tense political situation in Egypt over the summer 2013, CMEPS classes started as scheduled without any disruptions. Please see also the below statement by AUC President Lisa Anderson
Statement for International Students
“The American University in Cairo (AUC) started its Fall 2013 semester, as scheduled, on September 2. Since then, the University has operated normally, despite a midnight to 5am curfew and sporadic unrest elsewhere in Egypt. All of AUC’s degree programs are based on the New Cairo campus, which is approximately 35 km (20 miles) from downtown Cairo, and relatively distant from the areas where any disturbances have taken place. International students have been encouraged to stay in University housing, and many of our current international students are living in the dormitories on the New Cairo campus.
The safety and security of its students and other community members is AUC’s most important priority. The University’s Emergency Management Team monitors the security situation continually and updates the University community regularly. AUC only operates its campuses, transportation services and other facilities if and when it is safe to do so.”
